I was thinking about my nights working as a cocktail waitress at Keystone Korner back in the 1970's, and happened upon this site. What an introduction that was to some of the best jazz musicians of that era...unforgettable. I am looking forward to buying the Keystone Korner book.

Best wishes to ya, TB!

Today I received a bootleg Miles 74-75 Keystone Korner from Japan for not cheap! (definitely audience recording) I should have known it wasn't the show I saw...which must have been a few years later...Miles in a purple suit playing material after his release of Get Up With It. Of all the shows I saw at Keystone, as a semi-broke student, this one completely blew my mind. Miles was extremely dramatic in the way he slowly unzipped his trumpet bag, and then held it out in front of him...the band mixed a stew of power than finally ended with the keyboards still fizzling after everyone had left the stage. Even though my ass may still hurt from those seats at Keystone, and my wrist may be permanently outraged by that sullen doorman's hard grab and twist of my wrist at the door...(man he was no fun), Keystone was the best thing that ever happened to me in a small room. Now, I'm at the Treiste at least 3 times a week, and park next to the Keystone location every time....and always think about it. Naturally, I'd die to hear that Miles show some day. I hope you recover smoothly, Todd. You made a big difference in my life at just the right time.

Bright Moments Todd...
Spent most of 1981 studying in the best jazz venue in the world before moving to NYC.
I always visit the neighborhood whenever I'm in SFO.
Miss Miles on the wall in the alley.

Brian, Kathy Sloane is indeed listed as the author/editor of this great book in all the press releases and almost all the internet
mentions. I will ask the guy who helps with my blog to make sure that Kathy's name is added to the basic text of this post
also. All my love and respect and eternal brighter moments always, Todd

Mr. Barkan,

I found your name on the back of a Jimmy Scott CD, and surprised to see a name so similar to my son's teacher, decided to see what you look like.

Glad I did. You look like you relish sunshine. Like you glimpse the depth of the story behind eyes that dart away, as well as those which hold yours in mutual appreciation of the sunlight in a smile.

May your recovery be gentle, strong and true.

-Kim O.

Dear Mr. Barkan,
I am very happy to hear that you are mending so well and I hope you are still experiencing sunshine as much as possible.
I am one of the countless people who greatly enjoyed The Keystone Korner in SF. Now that I have been back in New York I have been so pleased to once again enjoy your esteemed programming at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola.
I do not know as of this posting if you are back at Dizzy's but I do hope if not you will so soon.
With kindest regards- Anukampa Lisa Walden
